Spring Break can be a great time to enjoy the season with friends and family. Make this year's spring break memorable by having fun and helping yourself, your friends, and others stay safe while traveling and at your destination. These tips from OffenderWatch Initiative can help you and your loved ones stay safe while traveling.
Get to Know Your Surroundings: Before you go out, learn a well-lit route back to your property. Always carry emergency cash and keep phone numbers for cab companies readily accessible.
Form A Buddy System: You and your friends should agree on a secret signal for uncomfortable situations. There is safety in numbers and it’s best to do things as a group.
Try to have at least three members with you at all times when leaving the hotel or rental property. Trust your instincts, if you feel unsafe in any situation, go with your feeling.
Have an Emergency Contact Person: Provide them with your hotel phone and room numbers, the members of your trip, your flight plans (if any) and times you should arrive to your destination and return from your vacation. If any of this information changes, at any time, make sure to notify your contact person. Take a few moments everyday to check in with your contact person.
Always Submit an Address: Submit an address of where you are to your local Law Enforcement Sex Offender Database, thereby giving you the information for which houses or areas to avoid.
