A lot of things can happen in 2 minutes.
Don’t let sexual assault be one of them.

Two minutes doesn’t sound like much, right? Really, a lot can happen in such a short amount of time, including sexual assault. According to the Department of Justice, every two minutes someone living in the United States is sexually assaulted. In that same time frame 8,620 people will visit Amazon.com, 154,320 hours of video will be streamed on Netflix, and lightning will strike the earth 12,000 times.

Sexual assault affects hundreds of thousands of people each year. It affects men, women and children of all ages.

Sexual assault is, unfortunately, an all-too-common occurrence. But thanks to the history of shame and ignorance surrounding the topic of sexual assault, many people don’t know how to handle a disclosure of sexual assault from another person. They may not realize how critical the period following a sexual assault can be in terms of determining how the victim may be able to recover and move on from the abuse.
