BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A proposal described as helping parents keep their children away from sex offenders when they play video games or participate in other online activities has received final passage.
The bill by Republican Rep. Cameron Henry, of Metairie, would let the public have access to email addresses and online screen names of registered sex offenders.
It calls for "limited disclosure" to someone who requests the information to identify or monitor registered sex offenders.
The Louisiana State Police, which keeps the registry, wouldn't be able to provide names or other identifying information to link a specific registered sex offender with the information that's released.
The House had voted 99-0 for the bill. A 37-0 vote of the Senate on Tuesday sent it to the governor's desk.
